With the departure of Adrian Boothroyd to WBA, it was Sammy Morgan and Ricky Martin at the helm as City's Academy side were held to a 2-2 draw at Crystal Palace on Saturday. It did seem with just a few minutes left on the clock that the young Canaries would record a win, but a clanger from Shane Herbert, identical to the one from Robert Green at Nottingham Forest back in August, meant the young Eagles took a share of the points. Danny Crow found himself as the loan front runner for City as Ryan Jarvis was back on the bench for the first team at home to Sunderland, this coming after his excellent showing when he came on as a second half substitute against Derby in midweek. |

It was the home side who quickly got into their stride and they opened their account after just 10 minutes when a sweeping free kick was helped on at the near the post to be converted at the far post from what looked like an offside position. The Canaries slowly pulled themselves back into the game, although their only attempts on target were restricted to a couple of Adam Smith shots from outside the box. However, it was exactly in this way that the equalising goal came just 5 minutes before the break. Crow was on hand for a clever flick on to Nicky Howell who squared the ball for Smith to fire the ball into the far corner, with a shot from the edge of the area. |

After the break Morgan changed the formation around. It paid dividends just 5 minutes into the second half when a quickly taken free kick fell to Greg Crane. The centre-back's long-range effort took a deflection before it fell invitingly for City's leading scorer, Lee Blackburn, who made no mistake again from the edge of the area. City might have extended their lead when Robert Eagle sent David Chick racing clear, only for the full- back to see his shot strike the bar. With just 6 minutes left on the clock, Herbert tried to emulate Greens howler at Forest and a very good job he made of it. Unaware that there was a Palace striker behind him, Herbert calmly rolled the ball out, only to see the Palace player nick the ball before rolling it into an empty net. |

Even then City almost collected all three points when Damian Batt found the net, only for the goal to be disallowed with another City player in an offside position.
