Jarvis On Target Again As City Sink The Saints
NORWICH CITY U 19's 2 SOUTHAMPTON UNDER 19's 1
After a below par performance against Coventry City last week, Adrian Boothroyd's side were back to their winning ways at Colney on Saturday, when they beat Southampton by the odd goal in three.
As he had done in midweek for the Reserves, Ryan Jarvis was once again on target and, although the Saints equalised a few minutes later, an own goal shortly before half time was enough to give the Canaries all three points.
It was the visitors who got an early attempt at goal, but Mike Williamson saw his effort deflected wide of Aaron Osborne's goal. Shortly after the Saints' number one Gareth Williams had to make a block with his trailing leg, when one of his own defenders almost turned a Nicky Howell cross into his own net.
With 20 minutes on the clock, Williams gifted City with the opening goal when he saw his clearance fall to Jarvis. The City striker needed just one touch before he lifted the ball over the stranded keeper into the empty net.
Just four minutes later and Southampton were back on level terms, when Osborne was well beaten from 18 yards with a well hit shot from their Russian striker Andrey Perpelyotkin.
The lively Lee Blackburn saw a well struck volley from all of 25 yards saved by Williams, but with just 4 minutes to go before the break the Saints' keeper was powerless to stop City regaining the lead.
A powerful run down the right flank by Damian Batt saw his cross fall to Danny Crow, his first time shot was well saved by Williams but, as the rebounded out, the unfortunate defender Matthew Crowell could only bundle the ball into his own net.
City had to withstand a Saints onslaught after the break, but there was no way through the Canary defence, once again marshalled by captain Greg Crane.
City line up: Osborne, Batt, Chick, Crane, Tyrie, Smith, Howell [Clarke 82], Blackburn, Jarvis, Crow, Eagle [Howlett 82].
Subs not used: Herbert, Willis, Gil.
Top Canary: Lee Blackburn.
