City's Academy side carried on where they left off on Tuesday night, with a win over Wimbledon at Colney on Saturday. It rounded off a good week for Sammy Morgan's side after the Youth Cup win over Sheffield United at Carrow Road. It was, however, not a good week for the young Dons who exited the cup on Wednesday night at the hands of Aston Villa. City quickly got into their stride and went close on just 12 minutes when a 25-yard left foot shot from Adam Smith was only a fraction wide of the target. Smith, however, would have a hand in the opening goal on 23 minutes. |

The City midfielder saw his corner headed goalward by Matthew Watts and while the Wimbledon defence blocked his effort, they then failed to clear the danger and allowed Lee Howlett a shot that was deflected past David Martin in the visitors' goal. Danny Crow then went close twice in quick succession after some good work by Damian Batt. With 35 minutes on the clock it was Crow who then fired City into a two goal lead. A quick break out of defence saw Chick chest the ball down to Andrew Fisk who fed the ball through to Crow. The striker raced clear of the Wimbledon defence and fired the ball under Martin, who although he got a hand to the ball could only help it into the net. It had been a good first half performance from City with Smith and Fisk looking quite outstanding in the middle of the park. Wimbledon made two changes after the break and looked a different side for it. The changes paid dividends on the hour mark when central defender Leon Crooks headed home a corner to bring them back into the game. |

Despite their better showing in the second half, Wimbledon rarely troubled Joe Lewis, in fact it was City who finished the game on top with Batt going close with a volley after some good work down the left flank by David Chick. This was another good performance from Sammy Morgan's side, the only minus point being a knee injury for Jake Osborne, suffered after he had only been on the pitch for 12 minutes. While the defender was in some discomfort, it appears that it was nothing more that bruising. City Line-up: Lewis, Batt, Chick, Watts [J Osborne 63, Djahansouzi 75], Crane, Smith, Howell [Willis 67], Fisk, Howlett, Crow, Eagle. Subs Not Used: Herbert, Muddel. Top Canary: Andrew Fisk. |
