City Sign Danish Striker

While Canaries boss Nigel Worthington will have to wait until the January sales come around if he is to add a striker to his squad, there are no such problems at Academy level as Academy Director Ricky Martin announced to FONCY at the weekend that he has completed the signing of 17-year-old Danish striker Asmat El Ouargui.

The Colney faithful will of course remember Asmat who was on trial at Norwich during pre-season and scored in the friendlies against Northampton Town and Rushden and Diamonds.

Speaking to Ricky he was clearly pleased that after some weeks of discussions with the player and his club, Hvidovre, Asmat has put pen to paper on an 18-month scholarship.

"It has taken some while to get Asmat here and we had hoped that we could also sign fellow Dane Per Weihrauch at the same time. We came mighty close to completing the double, but in the end with Per we had to give second best to Dutch giants Ajax. Asmat did well when he was here in pre-season, he has great pace, and his athletic build should see him adapt to the English game without too many problems", said Ricky.

With the F.A.Youth Cup at Burnley looming there is now a rush against time to get Asmat's international clearance through so that he can play at Turf Moor. City have until 24 hours before the game to get clearance.
