26.12.02 - ACADEMY TRIO IN SQUAD FOR BUSY HOLIDAY PERIOD

City boss Nigel Worthington has draughted three Academy players into his squad for what promises to be a hectic Christmas period. Goalkeeper Arran Lee- Barrett and defenders Jason Shackell and Damian Batt have joined Ian Henderson to make it four of Adrian Boothroyd's Under-19 squad currently in contention for a first team start.
With Paul Crighton sidelined through injury Lee- Barrett has found himself on the bench as cover for Robert Green, and the Ipswich born youngster came close to making his first team debut when Green looked to be in trouble after a hefty tumble in the game against Walsall. The City number one was able to continue after lengthy treatment however.
Left sided central defender Shackell has been in outstanding form of late, not only for The Academy but also for Keith Webb's second string. Along with fellow Academy central defender Greg Crane, Jason led by example in the Reserves victory over Brighton last month.
Batt has played in a variety of positions this season but he has caught the eye of late playing in either of the full back rolls.
Regular visitors to Colney will have seen him operating down the flanks but it seems as an attacking defender he can offer much more to the side.
To date both Jason and Damian have not been included in the first 15 but their inclusion in Nigel Worthingtons squad is further proof that Sammy Morgan and his coaching staff at The Academy are once again producing Canary Stars of the future.

19.12.02 - City Reach the last 16 of the F.A. Youth Cup!

A convincing 2-0 win at a bitterly cold Selhurst Park last night took Norwich to the last 16 of the F. A. Youth Cup. A great Christmas present for Sammy Morgan and the Academy, the youngsters will be looking for an attractive tie when the draw for the next round is made on January 7th.

A coach, organised by FONCY took supporters, family and friends to Selhurst Park and together with a few London based fans Norwich supporters outnumbered home fans in the crowd of around 150. Delia Smith and here husband were also in the crowd.
