30.03.03 - CANARIES MAKE THEIR POINT

NORWICH CITY UNDER-19'S 0 LEICESTER CITY UNDER-19'S 0

City's Academy Under-19 side completed their home league programme on Saturday with a battling performance against Leicester City at Colney.
Adrian Boothroyd was without the services of four players who were all in the first team squad: Ian Henderson, Jason Shackell, Ryan Jarvis and Dean Sinclair. Additionally Damian Batt was injured and David Chick was suspended. Therefore, just as he had done last week, Boothroyd called on the services of 9 schoolboys, including Under-15's Rossi Jarvis and Andrew Fisk.
Both sides had early chances, with Stephen Dawson going close for The Foxes while for City an Olli Willis cross evaded everyone in the penalty area.
Aaron Osborne produced a good save to save his blushes, after he cleared a ball straight to a Leicester striker. Moments later Osborne produced the save of the game when he moved swiftly to his left to make a one-handed save from a Gareth Campbell free kick.
City's best opportunity of the first half came when Danny Crow met an Adam Smith corner only to see his header loop just over the bar.
Chances were few and far between after the interval, nevertheless the Colney regulars were treated to some excellent football from both sides, as has been the case on many occasions this season.

City line up: A.Osborne, Willis, J.Osborne, Tyrie, Halliday [Rossi Jarvis 82], Crane, Smith, Blackburn, Clarke [Howell 64], Crow, Eagle [Fisk 66]

Subs not used: Herbert, Gil

Top Canary: Jake Osborne.

27.03.03 - BATT AND SMITH STAR IN RESERVE WIN OVER POSH

Academy players Damian Batt and Adam Smith both played a prominent roll in Wednesday afternoon's Reserve Team victory over Peterborough United at Colney.
It was a long throw from Batt that saw Iwan Roberts open the scoring for Keith Webb's side, the City striker getting a head to the ball before going in off a Posh defender.
City's second goal, coming just four minutes from the break, was started by Batt, who's sweeping cross-field pass picked out Smith. The first-year trainee wasted little time in finding Roberts in the area, who laid the ball into the path of Ian Henderson, and although his first shot was blocked the Reserves' leading scorer made no mistake from the rebound.

27.03.03 - UNDER-17's SET TO FACE ARSENAL

With City's Academy side set for just two more fixtures, Adrian Boothroyd has been looking to arrange a few fixtures after the season has finished on April 5th. Although it seems more will follow, the only one to be confirmed at the moment is an Under-17 fixture against Arsenal on Saturday April 12th. A kick-off time is still to be arranged, but it seems certain that it will be either 11 am or 12 noon. As soon as we have a confirmed time we will let you know.

23.03.03 - BOOTHROYD PLEASED DESPITE DEFEAT

CHARLTON U19's 2 NORWICH CITY U19's 0

Despite going down to two second half goals at Charlton on Saturday, City's Assistant Academy Director Adrian Boothroyd was full of praise for his young side.
No less than 6 schoolboys were included in the starting line up, and for the first 45 minutes they were the better side against a strong Charlton side that are set to face Manchester City in the semi final of the F.A.Youth Cup this week.
Boothroyd had this to say about his side's performance. "When you field a young side you have to look beyond the result and what I saw, particularly in the first half, was very positive. For long periods we outplayed a much more physical side and we went close on a couple occasions. I was not surprised that we fell away after the break and we were a little unfortunate with their second goal."
The young Canaries complete their home campaign this Saturday with the visit of Leicester City to Colney.

City Line up: Herbert, Rossi Jarvis, Tyrie, Halliday, J.Osborne, Smith, Blackburn, Eagle [Gil 80], Howell, Ryan Jarvis, Clarke [Coutes 45]
Subs not used: Lewis, Gusterson.

Top Canary: David Tyrie

16.03.03 - JARVIS HELPS ENGLAND TO U17 EURO FINALS

Ryan Jarvis has helped England qualify for the U17 European Championships to be staged in Portugal in May. England finished top of a qualifying group staged over six days in the North-West of England.
Last Wednesday Jarvis scored the second goal, a penalty, in a 2-0 win over the Czech Republic. Earlier he had been guilty of missing a couple of chances in front of 2000 fans at Chester City's Deva Stadium. Ryan was rested for the 5-0 win over Slovakia on friday, but played his part in today's 2-0 win against Scotland at Prenton Park, Tranmere, which secured the Group for the England Squad.

15.03.03 - DISPUTED PENALTY SCUPPERS CANARIES

A hotly disputed penalty 20 minutes from time saw City's Academy side go down by the only goal of the game against Watford this morning. Adrian Boothroyd named a young squad that included eight schoolboys as they looked to put last week's defeat at the hands of Aston Villa behind them.
City started the game the brighter of the two sides with their lone striker Danny Crow going close on two occasions with shots from just inside the penalty area. If City were restricted to just two first-half opportunities, the young Hornets had only one attempt on Shane Herbert's goal and it needed a Lee Howlett clearance off the line to clear the danger.
After the break, City were forced to defend in numbers, although once again Watford failed to trouble the City goal.
With 70 minutes gone, the home side were awarded a penalty after Oliver Willis and a Watford striker tangled in the box. Watford went on to score from the spot kick. Nevertheless, the Canaries could count themselves unfortunate as, on another day, the decision could have gone in their favour.
Late in the game, Lee Blackburn and Greg Crane saw chances cleared off the line, both coming from Adam Smith corners.

City line up: Herbert, Chick, Tyrie, Crane, Willis, Howlett, Smith, Blackburn, Eagle, Batt, Crow.
Subs not used: Lewis, Gil, Clarke, Halliday, Jake Osborne.

Top Canary: Shane Herbert.

08.03.03 - THREE GOALS AND THREE POINTS FOR THE VILLA

Three second-half goals from Aston Villa saw City's Academy side come out second best, in what was their penultimate home game of the season. City could count themselves unlucky with the first goal, which took a deflection past Shane Herbert, who was making his first start for The Academy side, but Villa added a second 5 minutes later it was all over for the Canaries. To make matters even worse they were reduced to 10 men shortly after, when defender David Chick was shown a straight red for dangerous play.
Villa, who are only 4 points behind league leaders Arsenal, were without the services of Luke Moore, who along with City striker Ryan Jarvis is away on international duty with the England Under-17 squad.
City were let off the hook as early as the second minute, when Amadou Kouman fire a shot across the Canaries' goalmouth.
Dean Sinclair and Adam Smith went close for Norwich, while Ian Henderson thought he had opened the scoring shortly before the break when he headed home a Smith free kick, only to see the Assistant Referee with his flag aloft to signal offside.
It took Villa just 5 minutes after the break to open their account, when Kouman saw his shot deflected over a stranded Herbert. Just 5 minutes later, the visitors extended their lead with Kouman getting the final touch after Peter Hynes headed the ball on from a corner.
Chick got his marching orders on the hour mark, and then just 5 minutes later Villa completed the scoring when Hynes was put through to fire the ball beyond Herbert.
Late in the game Adrian Boothroyd introduced City's Under-15 keeper Joe Lewis for his first Under-19 game, and then in injury time substitute Josh Clarke almost scored a consolation goal for City but Villa keeper Wayne Henderson made a good save.

City line up: Herbert [Lewis 85], Batt, Willis, Crane, Chick, Sinclair, Howell [Clarke 57], Blackburn [Howlett 75], Henderson, Crow, Smith.
Subs not used: Eagle, J.Osborne

Top Canary: Damian Batt.

04.03.03 - JARVIS ON TARGET AGAIN AS CITY SINK THE SAINTS

After a below par performance against Coventry City last week, Adrian Boothroyd's side were back to their winning ways at Colney on Saturday, when they beat Southampton by the odd goal in three.
As he had done in midweek for the Reserves, Ryan Jarvis was once again on target and, although the Saints equalised a few minutes later, an own goal shortly before half time was enough to give the Canaries all three points.
It was the visitors who got an early attempt at goal, but Mike Williamson saw his effort deflected wide of Aaron Osborne's goal. Shortly after the Saints' number one Gareth Williams had to make a block with his trailing leg, when one of his own defenders almost turned a Nicky Howell cross into his own net.
With 20 minutes on the clock, Williams gifted City with the opening goal when he saw his clearance fall to Jarvis. The City striker needed just one touch before he lifted the ball over the stranded keeper into the empty net.
Just four minutes later and Southampton were back on level terms, when Osborne was well beaten from 18 yards with a well hit shot from their Russian striker Andrey Perpelyotkin.
The lively Lee Blackburn saw a well struck volley from all of 25 yards saved by Williams, but with just 4 minutes to go before the break the Saints' keeper was powerless to stop City regaining the lead.
A powerful run down the right flank by Damian Batt saw his cross fall to Danny Crow, his first time shot was well saved by Williams but, as the rebounded out, the unfortunate defender Matthew Crowell could only bundle the ball into his own net.
City had to withstand a Saints onslaught after the break, but there was no way through the Canary defence, once again marshalled by captain Greg Crane.

City line up: Osborne, Batt, Chick, Crane, Tyrie, Smith, Howell [Clarke 82], Blackburn, Jarvis, Crow, Eagle [Howlett 82].
Subs not used: Herbert, Willis, Gil.

Top Canary: Lee Blackburn.
