31.10.03 - FA YOUTH CUP DRAW: BOLTON WANDERERS (H)

Today saw the 3rd round draw for the F.A.Youth Cup, as with the F.A. Cup this sees the "big guns" joining the competition. Norwich will face Bolton Wanderers in a home game to be played before December 6th. As a guideline the Bolton Under-19 Academy side are currently in 8th place in Group A of the Academy league - a tough looking group including the Merseyside and Manchester clubs. Norwich will be looking to enjoy a good run in the Cup, having last year reached the fith round when the went out to West Ham.

In other games, local rivals Ipswich face a tough looking trip to Leeds United and holders Manchester United must travel to either Rushden & Diamonds or Hayes. A particular mention goes to suffolk side Bury Town. The Ridgeons League club has seen it's youth team fight it's way through the qualifying rounds to be in the 2nd round proper where they face St Albans City at home on November 5th. Should Bury win that game they can look forward to welcoming Blackburn Rovers (Cup Winners in 2001) to Ram Meadow!

31.10.03 - LEWIS CALLED UP FOR ENGLAND - AND BACK TO ACADEMY DUTIES

Academy keeper Joe Lewis, who recently was at an England training camp, has been named in the England Under-17 squad for the friendly game against Switzerland to be played at Ashton Gate, Bristol on November 12th.

Meanwhile for the coming weekend Lewis will be waiting to see whether he travels to Walsall with the first team for tomorrow's game or returns to the Academy squad to face Spurs at Colney (12 noon kick-off - see match preview below).

Paul Crichton's injury has seen Joe drafted onto the subs bench for the last 7 first team games but Crichton made his comeback from injury in a reserve team friendly against a Spurs XI at Colney on Tuesday, the game having actually been arranged at the request of the Londoners.

When Crichton originally picked up his injury in September it did seem that Nigel Worthington would bring in a loan player, but clearly Joe had done enough to impress the City boss, although it may have been different if Robert Green had picked up an injury. Nevertheless it will have been a fantastic experience for 15-year-old Joe. With Crichton coming through the Spurs friendly unscathed it does seem that Joe will soon be able to catch up on his schoolwork.

For the record the Spurs friendly was an evenly balanced game that ended in a 1-1 draw. The visitors led at the break but City drew level in the second half with Ian Henderson finishing off a good move involving Ryan Jarvis and the returning Crichton, who started the move.

City Line-up: Crichton, Briggs [Willis 85], Chick [Tyrie 85], Crane, Shackell, Easton [Smith 77], Mulryne [Blackburn 67], Sinclair, Rivers [Batt 77], Roberts [Henderson 45], Jarvis [Crow 75]

29.10.03 - TOTTENHAM UNDER-19 MATCH PREVIEW

Action from last Season at Colney
Action from last season's encounter at Colney
Tottenham are the visitors to Colney this coming Saturday for the next Under-19 Premier Academy League fixture. Kick-off time has been set as 12 noon.

Spurs make the trip to Norfolk on the back of a 3-1 home win against Millwall last weekend. The updated league table shows they now are on the same number of points as City, but the Canaries too will be in a positive mood after their draw at Palace on Saturday.

The equivalent fixture last season saw a 2-2 draw at Colney a year ago. City lost the return game at Tottenham in April 1-0, the last league game of the season.

If you are not travelling to Walsall, why not try to get along to Colney to cheer the lads on against a side who normally provide attractive opposition.

26.10.03 - HERBERT MISTAKE ALLOWS EAGLES SHARE OF THE POINTS

With Sammy Morgan and Ricky Martin in charge of the team, the Academy Under-19 side came away with a share of the points in saturday's fixture at Crystal Palace.

Goals from Adam Smith (pictured right) and Lee Blackburn had put the Canaries in control, before a lapse of concentration from Shane Herbert gave the Eagles a share of the points. Herbert will point to more illustrious colleagues who have also recently learnt from the same mistake!

Last season's games against Palace saw City suffer mixed fortunes with a 6-0 win away from home against The Eagles, before then losing the return fixture 3-0 at Colney. This saturday's game kicks off at 11am at Palace's training ground on Copers Cope Road in Beckenham, Kent.

17.10.03 - LONG TERM INJURIES HIT THE ACADEMY

Josh Clarke
Josh Clarke
The Norwich Academy has suffered its second long-term injury of the season with striker Josh Clarke recently having a knee problem diagnosed as a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament. The injury requires an operation putting Josh out of action for the season.

This is of course a big blow to any player, but the Yarmouth youngster will be all the more distraught having made an excellent start to the season in his first year as an Academy Scholar.

Rossi Jarvis, younger brother of Ryan, also suffered a knee injury during the Northern Ireland Milk Cup at the start of the season and was operated on some time ago. Rossi is now going through the long and arduous rehabilitation process.

Everyone at FONCY wishes both players all the very best for a successful and complete recovery.

City's Under-19 Academy side make the long trip down to Southampton this Saturday to take on the current leaders of their Group in the Premier Academy League.

The current league table shows City in fourth place but, rather than being too worried about league placings, coach Adrian Boothroyd will looking for an improved performance on the south coast following last saturday's heavy defeat at home to West Ham.

City won the last encounter between the two sides in March this year at Colney 2-1. Saturday's game kicks off at 11am at the Staplewood Training Ground in Marchwood, Southampton.

06.10.03 - WEST HAM BURST YOUNG CANARIES' BUBBLE - REPORT AND PICTURES

West Ham Match Report and Pictures
City's Under-19 Academy side waited for the first visit of the season from the FONCY Webmaster to lose their 100% home record on Saturday. And they did it in style with West Ham romping to a 5-2 victory at a blustery Colney.

A first-half lead through Lee Howlett counted for nothing as The Hammers put five goals past the Canaries in fifteen frantic second-half minutes. Nicky Howell was the second Norwich scorer.
