30.11.03 - FA YOUTH CUP 3RD ROUND RESULTS SO FAR

In the run up to Monday evening's Cup game at Carrow Road, I thought it would be appropriate to publish the results so far in this round of the competition.

Sheffield United 4 Burnley 1 Swindon Town - Chesterfield -
Reading 0 Southampton 3 West Bromwich Albion 2 Tottenham Hotspur 1
Wigan Athletic 1 Manchester City 2 Nottingham Forest 1 Preston North End 0
Liverpool 0 Gillingham 1 Middlesbrough 3 Fulham 0
Charlton 0 Sunderland 2 Rushden & Diamonds 1 Manchester United 2
Macclesfield 1 Walsall 2 Cambridge United 2 Millwall 0

Particular results to note are West Brom's victory over Spurs and Gillingham's surprise victory at Anfield over Liverpool. In East Anglia Cambridge United did well to put out Millwall and not so far away in Rushden a 5000 crowd saw the home side go down 2-1 to the might of ManU. Don't forget that another local side, Bury Town, who have fought their way through to this stage from the preliminary rounds, have the game of their lives this coming wednesday when they entertain Blackburn Rovers.

First though the Canaries take on Bolton at Carrow Road on Monday. Enjoy the game!

26.11.03 - BOLTON YOUTH CUP PREVIEW / LEAGUE TABLES

As reported in the local press (while your webmaster was away in Hamburg for the weekend), Norwich City Under-19 Academy team saw their game at Millwall postponed on saturday due to a waterlogged pitch. The updated league table keeps you up to date on events in Norwich's group.

With another free weekend coming up for an "in-house weekend", City's next competitive action will now be the FA Youth Cup game next monday night at Carrow Road against Bolton.

For a full preview on the game, including a look back at last year's cup run, click here or on the picture. On monday we hope to bring you a short update before the big game.

26.11.03 - OSBORNE AND TYRIE TO BE RELEASED

Norwich city Academy Director Sammy Morgan has announced that third year scholars Aaron Osborne and David Tyrie will not be offered professional contracts when their scholarships are completed at the end of the season.

It is always a very difficult time for young players but to their credit both players have had trials at other clubs and have had some positive reactions.

David had a trial at nearby Cambridge United but was unfortunate to pick up an injury very early into the game. Nevertheless The U's were encouraged with what they saw and David has been invited back once he has overcome his injury. For his part Aaron travelled a little further a field, his travels taking him to Oxford United. Aaron also did enough to impress and it is understood that he has been invited back for a two-week period.

Everyone at FONCY would like to extend our very best wishes to both players in their attempts to gain a professional contract. It has been a pleasure to watch both players who have always been a credit to themselves and Norwich City Football Club.

20.11.03 - MILLWALL UNDER-19 MATCH PREVIEW

Millwall crest - as was
The Norwich Under-19 Academy side travel to London again on saturday for the next Academy League fixture against Millwall. With the last weekend in November being an in-house training weekend, this is the young Canaries' last game before the Youth Cup game against Bolton at Carrow Road on December 1st. Saturday's game takes place at Millwall's Training Ground in Bromley, Kent, with a noon kick-off.

Norwich have dropped somewhat in the table in recent weeks, the updated league table shows the respective records this year.

Last season Norwich won the equivalent match 1-0 with a David Chick goal. A full match report (with photos) of this weekend's game will appear on this site on monday night.

17.11.03 - FONCY MEMORABILIA RAFFLE AT UEFA CUP RUN REUNION

FONCY took advantage of the nostalgia at sunday evening's UEFA Cup Run Reunion Meal at Carrow Road to run a raffle among the the guests and raised over £900 for the Academy in the process.

Richard Bland and friends pulled together three great memorabilia prizes related to 1993 to add to the success of the evening.

Prizes and winners:
1st Prize: A 93/4 season shirt signed by all the players & staff attending the celebration won by Mrs Andrew Cullen!
2nd Prize: A framed programme from the match at Bayern Munich signed by Franz Beckenbauer won by Paul Heffer
3rd Prize: A framed set of three first day postal covers charting the UEFA cup run won by Malcolm Fox

17.11.03 - CITY GO DOWN 2-1 AGAINST WIMBLEDON

The Norwich City Under-19 Academy team lost their match away to Wimbledon on saturday by two goals to one.

Danny Crow's goal from a free-kick was not enough to prevent defeat in a game which also saw Matthew Watts receive a red-card.

City again fielded a young side in preparation for the fast approaching F.A.Youth Cup game at Under-18 level. Also in the side was trialist Paul Atkins from Easton College.

12.11.03 - LEWIS WITH 45 MINUTES FOR ENGLAND

Joe Lewis added another England Under-17 cap to his long list of honours this evening as he played in the first-half of the 1-1 draw with Switzerland at Ashton Gate, Bristol. In front of a 5,000 crowd and Sky Sports Live TV camaras, Joe was powerless as the Swiss equalised from the penalty spot on sixteen minutes after Shane Paul had put England ahead.

Sunderland's Ben Alnwick came on for Joe at half-time.

12.11.03 - WIMBLEDON UNDER-19 MATCH PREVIEW

Action from last Season
Action from last season
The Norwich Under-19 Academy side travel to London on saturday for the next Academy League fixture against Wimbledon. While the first team have moved to Milton Keynes, the Wimbledon Under-19 side continue to play in London with the game being staged at the Richardson Evans Memorial Ground in Roehampton Vale (12 noon kick-off).

Unlike their senior counterparts, Wimbledon have made a successful start to the Academy season, although they did lose 2-0 at Tottenham last week. The updated league table shows the respective records this year.

Last season Norwich beat the Dons three times, with a Youth Cup victory at Selhurst Park to add to two league victories, including a 2-0 win at Colney.

12.11.03 - CITY RESERVES WIN IN THE FOG

City Reserves won 2-1 against Peterborough Reserves at Carrow Road on Monday evening with goals from Mark Rivers and Dean Sinclair.

Several Academy scholars were involved on an evening which saw the FONCY AGM take place at Carrow Road before the match. Those supporters who braved the fog and cold saw a workmanlike performance from the Canaries and some excellent goals.

09.11.03 - CANARIES LOSE OUT TO ADDICKS

Charlton Match Report and Pictures
The City Under-19 Academy side went down 2-0 to Charlton Athletic at Colney on Saturday. Sammy Morgan left most of the third-year scholars out of the side as part of the build up to the FA Youth Cup tie against Bolton and despite having more of the ball for long periods the Canaries failed to break down a stubborn Charlton defence.

As Norwich failed to score in an Academy game for the first time this season, Charlton snatched a goal in each half to take the honours. Nicky Howell was the top Canary with a good display on the right hand side of midfield.

05.11.03 - CHARLTON ATHLETIC UNDER-19 MATCH PREVIEW

Charlton Athletic are the next visitors to Colney this coming Saturday for an Under-19 Premier Academy League fixture (12 Noon kick-off).

Like Norwich, Charlton suffered a home defeat last week, in their case 3-2 at the hands of Southampton. The updated league table shows the two clubs on the same number of points in mid-table.

The Addicks will be looking for revenge after the Canaries won the Lyngby Cup Semi-final between the two sides in pre-season on penalties, having been behind for most of the game. Last season City managed only one point in two games against Charlton and with the young Canaries having several injuries to content with at the moment, saturday's game does not look easy.

Why not try to get along to Colney before the Millwall game at Carrow Road to cheer the lads on?

02.11.03 - INJURY-HIT CANARIES THWARTED BY SPURS

Spurs Match Report and Pictures
An injury-hit Under-19 Academy side went down 2-1 to Tottenham Hotspur at Colney on Saturday. However with three schoolboys on the bench it was a good performance by a young Norwich side.

Danny Crow was the City scorer with a well-taken goal before having to go off injured himself later in the game. Norwich Man of the Match was Damian Batt with a good performance at right-back.
