18.12.03 - UPDATED LEAGUE TABLE
| The updated league table shows Norwich have climbed a place in their Academy League Group as the Academy set-up now goes into it's Christmas and New Year break. City's next league game at Under-19 level is on January 10th 2004 away to Tottenham Hotspur. |
14.12.03 - CROW GIVES COLNEY FAITHFUL A HAPPY CHRISTMAS
|
The Norwich Under-19 Academy side finally got back to winning ways at Colney on Saturday with a hard-fought victory against Crystal Palace in their last game before the Christmas break. Danny Crow scored the winner 10 minutes from time after Palace had cancelled out David Chick's goal that put the Canaries 1-0 up. City again gave schoolboys Clarkson and Kelleher a run-out, while trialist Paul Atkins got a second game at this level. For the full match report and pictures click here or on the picture. |

09.12.03 - CRYSTAL PALACE MATCH PREVIEW
![]() |
The Academy Under-19 side entertain Crystal Palace at Colney (11am kick-off) this coming saturday in the last Academy game before Christmas. Although the league table counts for nothing in the development of young players, Sammy Morgan will be looking for his young side to improve their recent league form and maintain their league position with The Eagles only one place behind them in the current table. Indeed, the last time the Canaries won a league point was in a 2-2 draw when the two sides met six weeks ago. |
09.12.03 - FA YOUTH CUP DATE FIXED
|
As widely reported in the local media, the club has announced that the 4th Round FA Youth Cup tie against Sheffield United will be played at Carrow Road on Tuesday January 20th with a 7pm kick-off. The tie is to be decided on the night with extra-time and penalties if required. On Saturday the Blades' Under-19 Academy team (the cup is at Under-18 level) won 2-1 at Huddersfield while their Under-17 Academy side team drew 0-0 at Leeds. With the young Canaries attempting to reach the 5th round of the second successive year, make a note of the date now and try to join what will hopefully be a large crowd at Carrow Road in January. |
08.12.03 - LOCAL DERBY GOES TO IPSWICH
|
Ipswich ran out winners at Colney on Saturday, as the Canaries failed to carry on their Youth Cup form and went down 3-1 to their local rivals. Sammy Morgan fielded a young side, with two schoolboys making their full debuts at this level. Indeed one debutant, Seamus Kelleher, put City ahead after 10 minutes, but Ipswich fought back to win. Joe Lewis was guilty of a "Gunn-esque" mis-kick which saw an own-goal put Ipswich 2-1 up. For the full match report and pictures click here or on the picture. |

04.12.03 - IPSWICH UNDER-19 MATCH PREVIEW
![]() Goalscorer Nicky Howell in action against Ipswich last season |
For the first time in four weeks the Norwich Under-19 Academy side have a home game at Colney on Saturday. And who better to welcome as opponents than Ipswich Town for a local derby! Although the current league table shows Ipswich at the bottom of the group, these local derbies normally turn out to be tight affairs. Add to that the success of both sides on monday in the Youth Cup and the scene would seem to be set for a good game (11am kick-off). Last season Norwich won the equivalent match 1-0 through a Nicky Howell goal, before a late goal saw them lose by the same scoreline in the return match at Ipswich. |
02.12.03 - SHEFFIELD UNITED NEXT IN THE CUP
|
Today's draw for the fourth round of the F.A. Youth Cup gave Norwich another home game, with Sheffield United the opponents in a game to be played before the end of January. The Blades have a full Academy set-up with teams at both Under-19 and Under-17 level, both doing well in their respective groups this year. This suggests the Yorkshire side may have more strength in depth than the Canaries for an Under-18 game, but Sammy Morgan's side will fancy their chances at Carrow Road and be full of confidence after monday night's win. Another team successful last night was Ipswich Town who won 2-1 in extra-time at Leeds United to earn a home tie with Sunderland in the next round. Ipswich visit Colney on Saturday (11am) in the Academy League. Tie of the round has to be the Manchester derby between United and City, while Bury Town would face West Bromwich Albion at home in the (admittedly unlikely) event that the Suffolk side win through against Blackburn Rovers. |
01.12.03 - CITY YOUTH WIN 1-0 IN THE CUP
|
Ryan Jarvis will grab the headlines, but it was a fine team performance from Norwich Under-18's at Carrow Road this evening which saw Norwich go through to the fourth round of the F.A. Youth Cup with a 1-0 win against Bolton. Jarvis scored the second-half winner following a flick-on from Nicky Howell, but the young defence around Joe Lewis in goal and Matthew Halliday and Jake Osborne at centre-back stood firm throughout the game to win plaudits along side their more well-known team-mate.
