28.01.04 - LATEST LEAGUE TABLE

The updated league table shows that saturday's victory over Wimbledon keeps Norwich in touch with the top half of their Academy League group. Southampton, who secured an excellent victory at Arsenal in the Youth Cup last week, lead the table, followed by Charlton Athletic.

The Academy enjoys a break from League action this week for "in-house training", with a return to action on February 7th when Millwall are due to visit Colney.

22.01.04 - WIMBLEDON UNDER-19 MATCH PREVIEW

Following the heroics of Tuesday evening at Carrow Road, its back to the bread and butter of the Academy League for the Norwich Under-19 side at Colney on Saturday. Wimbledon are the visitors for a 12 noon kick-off when the Canaries will be looking to avenge the 2-1 defeat inflicted by the Dons in November.

The updated league table shows Wimbledon only just ahead of Norwich in the league, the Dons having lost 1-0 to Tottenham last weekend.

It looks as though it should be a close game. With the first-team having an enforced break, why not try to get to Colney to cheer the lads on.

22.01.04 - ENGLAND CALL-UP

Ian Henderson

As recently reported in the local press, Ian Henderson has been selected for the England Under-19 squad to travel to Harderwijk in the Netherlands for a friendly international on February 17th. Hendo established himself in the England set-up when the side won the Lisbon International Tournament in Portugal in the summer.

With the England Under-17 squad due to travel to Portugal at the end of February, Joe Lewis will be waiting to hear if he can continue his England career in February too.

With Lee Blackburn also attracting the interest of the England scouts, it seems the national coaches are continuing to recognise the good work being done at Colney.

22.01.04 - RESERVES WIN AT COLCHESTER

Norwich City Reserves went to Colchester on wednesday afternoon and came back with an efficient, if not thrilling, 1-0 victory.

A strong side gave a run-out to the players on the fringe of the first-team and rested the Under-18 team members who had won so well in the Youth Cup the night before. Nevertheless Adam Smith and Lee Blackburn were on the bench only hours after playing in the Sheffield United match.

21.01.04 - YOUTH EARN A DATE WITH MAN U

Sheffield Utd Match Report
A great all-round team performance saw Norwich win through 2-0 in the F.A. Youth Cup at Carrow Road last night to earn themselves a date with ManU in the last sixteen.

Lee Blackburn (pictured left) put in a typical all-action performance and grabbed the first goal just after half-time. Matthew Halliday added a second five minutes later to take the wind well and truely out of the Sheffield sails. After that City calmly maintained their lead and put out a side who Sammy Morgan had counted amongst the favourites for the Cup before the game.

The date for the next round in Manchester still has to be fixed but has to be staged before February 20th. For the full match report click here or on the picture.

19.01.04 - YOUTH CUP MATCH PREVIEW

Norwich go into Tuesday's Youth Cup game at Carrow Road against Sheffield United (7pm kick-off) as the underdogs. The Blades are doing well both at Under-19 and Under-17 level in the Academy Leagues; add to that the fact that Ryan Jarvis misses the tie through injury and it is clear City will be up against it in their game of the season.

However the magic of the Cup, and home advantage, will give The Canaries some hope of making the fifth round and a trip to the might of ManU. As reported in the local press, Sammy Morgan has named a squad of 13 for the match, with schoolboys likely to complete the squad.

18.01.04 - WILLIS STRIKE NOT ENOUGH AT CHARLTON

Charlton Match Report and Pictures
Norwich City Under-19 went down somewhat unluckily 2-1 at Charlton on Saturday. Olly Willis put Norwich ahead, only for Charlton to strike back with two quick goals just before the break.

Sammy Morgan mixed and matched his side with the Youth Cup game not far away on Tuesday evening. Joe Lewis, Nicky Howell and Danny Crow were rested completely while several other key players for tuesday didn't play the full game. 14 year-old Ardavan Djhansouzi came on as a substitute, probably the youngest ever player for Norwich at this level.

15.01.04 - CHARLTON ATHLETIC UNDER-19 MATCH PREVIEW

The City Under-19 Academy side travel down to Charlton Athletic on Saturday in good spirits following their 1-0 win away at Spurs last week. The Canaries will be looking to avenge the 2-0 defeat that the Addicks inflicted on The Canaries at Colney in November. Equally it is the final test before the Youth Cup game against Sheffield United on Tuesday.

The updated league table shows Charlton in second place in the table and the yellows can expect a difficult game. The game at Charlton's New Eltham Training Ground will kick-off at 12 noon.

With our roving reporter planning to be at the game, we hope to bring you a full report with pictures on sunday evening!

14.01.04 - HENDO AND SMITH ON TARGET FOR RESERVES

Cambridge Reserves Match Report and Pictures
Norwich City Reserves were back in competitive action for the first time in two months at Colney this afternoon against Cambridge United. Academy players joined the pros looking for match fitness in a strong looking side which drew 2-2 (Henderson, Smith) in an entertaining game.

Cambridge included two former Academy Canaries on trial at Cambridge while Ryan Jarvis was stretchered off after picking up a first-half injury. Sammy Morgan must have been hoping to include Jarvis in next week's F.A. Youth Cup game, it remains to be seen whether his injury will prevent him playing in that game.

14.01.04 - YOUTH CUP 5: MAN UTD v NORWICH OR SHEFFIELD UTD!

Today's draw for the fifth round of the F.A. Youth Cup presented the winners of the Norwich / Sheffield United tie at Carrow Road next Tuesday with the exciting propect of a trip to Manchester United in the next Round.

United won through 2-0 against local rivals City at Old Trafford on Monday evening in front of 5547 spectators. The Canaries faced The Reds in the Youth Cup in their cup-winning season of 82/3, going through 1-0 at Old Trafford, but also lost there 1-0 in 95/6 at the 5th Round stage. Meanwhile, Sammy Morgan will undoubtedly be keeping Colney minds firmly fixed on the task ahead against Sheffield, which looks difficult enough in itself.

07.01.04 - CROW DOUBLE AS RESERVES WIN FRIENDLY

Academy striker Danny Crow was twice on target when City Reserves produced a storming comeback to beat Ipswich Town 4-2 at Portman Road today. The game, which took place behind closed doors, came after an invitation from Town that coach Keith Webb was more than happy to accept with his side last being in action back in November.

Despite having the lions' share of the first-half City found themselves a goal adrift at the break and it went from bad to worse after the interval when Town doubled their lead.

Not long after Town had extended their lead the game was turned completely on its head with the Canaries scoring four goals in a five-minute frenzy. Crow was the first to open the visitors' account when he was brought down in the penalty area. Mark Rivers fancied his chances from the spot but Crow was having none of it as he placed the ball and calmly fired it past Nathan Abbey.

Moments later Rivers got his name on the scoresheet when he drove the ball home after Dean Sinclair created the opening. It was then left to Sinclair to head City into the lead before Crow scored his second and City's fourth.

Action From The November Game
Action from Colney In November
The Under-19 Academy side will be back in action after their Christmas break on Saturday when they visit Tottenham Hotspur in the Academy League(11am kick-off at the Spurs Lodge in Chigwell). The young Canaries will be looking to avenge a 2-1 defeat at Colney in November.

Norwich need the points to keep in touch with the top half of the league table, although Sammy Morgan will probably also be looking to prepare his side for the Youth Cup game against Sheffield United on January 20th, with only saturday's match and the visit to Charlton a week later on the fixture list before the next big Carrow Road date.
