31.03.04 - YOUNG RESERVES LOSE OUT IN CUP Norwich City Reserves failed to reach the final stages of the Pontins Holiday Combination Cup as a very young side lost 3-1 at Southend United yesterday afternoon. Two early goals for the home side meant City were always facing an uphill struggle although Matthew Halliday reduced the arrears before half-time. The match saw Andrew Fisk (pictured left) make his debut at this level. For the match report and a good range of pictures click here or on the picture. |
30.03.04 - ENGLAND U19 WITH NORWICH STRIKEFORCE
|
England Under-19's drew 1-1 with their German counterparts this evening in Celle near Hannover. While Academy product Robert Green has been grabbing the England headlines in Norwich this week, the Under-19 game also saw Norwich well represented with Ryan Jarvis leading the attack and Ian Henderson supporting on the right flank. Indeed England enjoyed the better of the first-half action. Henderson went close after 15 minutes as the ball bobbled around the German goalmouth. With forty minutes gone Jarvis saw a close range shot deflected over the bar. Soon after England went 1-0 up through Derby County's Lee Holmes. The second-half saw Jarvis taken off and Henderson moving into the central strikers role. The Thetford youngster found it harder going in the second-half as England tired as a team and with 15 minutes left Germany equalised. |

| All in all a good performance from England and the Norwich youngsters. This was the last game at this level before England travel to Slovenia in May for a UEFA Championship Qualifying group. | |
29.03.04 - INTERNATIONAL UPDATE
|
Joe Lewis kept a clean sheet in England Under-17's important second UEFA Qualification group game against Iceland at the weekend. The 1-0 win secured England a place in the finals to be staged in France in May, with Joe needing to pull off a good save in an otherwise quiet game for the tall Norwich keeper. Joe was on the bench for England's two other group games. Meanwhile both Ian Henderson and Ryan Jarvis joined up with the England Under-19 squad after the Stoke City first team game on Saturday. Henderson had originally only been on call for Tuesday's friendly in Germany but will now be hoping to join his club colleague in Celle for the game to be televised live on Sky and DSF (17:30 kick-off British time). |

29.03.04 - MORE AWAY DAY BLUES Norwich City's Academy Under-19 side went down 2-0 at Chelsea on Saturday. It was the third game in a row that Sammy Morgan's team had failed to score, with the best chances for the Canaries falling to Andrew Fisk and Danny Crow before two second-half goals sealed it for the Blues. Jake Osborne (pictured left) put in a man of the match performance for Norwich. For the match report click here or on the picture. |
24.03.04 - CHELSEA UNDER-19 MATCH PREVIEW
|
Norwich City Under-19's side face another difficult game on Saturday as they travel to the Imperial College Sports Ground in Middlesex to play Chelsea (11 am kick-off). The Blues are currently third in Group C of the Academy League and beat Charlton Athletic 1-0 last weekend. Norwich will be in good spirits after their draw with Arsenal last week, despite dropping a place in the updated league table (25.03: Now really updated!). The Canaries will also take heart from the fact that last season they managed a 1-0 win at Chelsea early in the season with an Ian Henderson goal. 21.03.04 - GOOD TEAM PERFORMANCE SECURES A POINT Norwich City's Academy Under-19 side secured a point on Saturday as Academy Group C leaders Arsenal visited Colney. Norwich had the better of the game with a good team performance which pleased Academy Director Sammy Morgan. The only negatives points for Norwich were an early Ankle injury for Olly Willis and a late sending off for Lee Blackburn and an opponent in what had otherwise been a competitive but fair match. 19.03.04 - FONCY LAUNCH 2004 SPRING RAFFLE John Landamore was at Colney yesterday for a photo-call to launch the FONCY 2004 Spring Raffle. 18.03.04 - VILLA U19 MATCH TO BE REARRANGED
| Aston Villa Under-19s will not now be visiting Colney in two weeks time on April 3rd. Instead the Villans will be travelling to Blackburn for the second leg of their F A Youth Cup Semi-final. 17.03.04 - ARSENAL UNDER-19 MATCH PREVIEW
|
Arsenal are the visitors to Colney this saturday for a difficult looking Under-19 Academy League game (11 am kick-off). The Gunners are currently clear leaders in Group C of the Academy League and beat West Ham 3-1 last weekend. Norwich continue to find it difficult to get out of sixth place in Group D as the updated league table shows. Last season the two sides drew 0-0 at Colney before the Canary youngsters pulled off a fine 2-0 (Crow, Jarvis) win in the return game in London. An Under-17 friendly towards the end of last season ended 1-1 (Clarke) at Colney. |

17.03.04 - NEW DATE FOR SOUTHAMPTON U19 MATCH
| Hopes of a free Easter at the Academy were dashed this week when the new date for the Southampton Under-19 fixture, postponed at the end of last month, was set as Easter Saturday April 10th at Colney. With the first team in action the night before, the youngsters will be hoping for a good crowd for the visit of the Group leaders. |

17.03.04 - LATE DECIDER AT THE NEW DEN Norwich City Reserves lost to a last minute goal against Millwall at the New Den this afternoon. The Lions ran out 3-2 winners in an entertaining game. Having battled back from 2-0 down through goals from Danny Crow and Dean Sinclair, it was rough justice on a young City side not to share the spoils in the end. 17.03.04 - TYRIE IN SWIFTS MOVE
| As reported on www.ex-canaries.co.uk, released third-year scholar David Tyrie has recently joined up with Rymans League side Heybride Swifts in Maldon, Essex. The centre-back has played in the Swifts' last two games against Carsholton Athletic and Hendon. |
14.03.04 - CITY ALL SET TO SIGN SCOTTISH INTERNATIONAL
![]() Andrew Cave-Brown in action at Birmingham yesterday |
It seems despite the fact that Bertie Vogts is determined not to send out a call to either Gary Holt or Malkay Mackay, City could still yet have a Scottish International on their books for the start of next season. This will be in the shape of Andrew Cave-Brown who has caps for Scotland at Under-16 level. Andrew, who hails from Gravesend, has up until now been on the books of Charlton Athletic, but after two or three successful outings for The Academy he has been offered a scholarship at Norwich starting next season. Andrew played for Scotland in last seasons Victory Shield as well as a tournament in Switzerland, and this coming week he has been called into an U17 training camp in Glasgow. His latest outing for The Canaries came on Saturday when he was introduced as a second half substitute in the 2-0 defeat at Birmingham. |
|
14.03.04 - AWAY DAY BLUES Norwich City Academy Under-19 side had a fruitless trip to Birmingham City on Saturday and could only bring away a 2-0 defeat. Some heroics from Joe Lewis prevented more goals for the Blues. Peter Till was the dangerman from the midlands scoring one and being brought down for a penalty. Norwich included trialists Shabazz Baidoo and Danny Haynes in their squad. For the match report and pictures click here or on the picture. |

11.03.04 - BIRMINGHAM UNDER-19 MATCH PREVIEW
![]() |
Norwich City's Academy Under-19 team resume action after two free weekends with a visit to Birmingham City on Saturday (12 noon kick-off). Postponed games aside, the league games against other Group D games have now been completed and this is the first of a series of games against teams from Group C (Norwich fixture list). The updated league table shows Norwich in sixth place and The Blues are only one place higher in their group with a very similar record to The Canaries. |
| Norwich last played Birmingham in the Academy two seasons ago. A 2-2 draw at Colney (Hayes, Chick) was followed by a 4-2 (Henderson 2) defeat in the Midlands. | |
|
11.03.04 - MORE TRIAL NEWS David Chick has continued his trial at Boston United with an appearance for their Reserve side yesterday in a 3-0 win at Scunthorpe United. The Irons included ex-Norwich trainee Paul Hayes in their line-up. On Tuesday Damian Batt played in reserve team friendly for Wycombe Wanderers as they tested several potential players at Southampton. The opposition right back in a 4-0 defeat against a strong Saints side was a certain Darren Kenton. |

11.03.04 - ENGLAND CALL-UPS
![]() |
As widely reported locally Joe Lewis has, as expected, been called up to the England Squad for the UEFA Under-17 Championship qualifying group to be played in South Yorkshire from 24th - 28th March. In the tournament England will face Armenia, Iceland and Norway in games to be played in Sheffield and Doncaster. The Finals tournament is in France in May. Somewhat more surprising is the call up of Ryan Jarvis to the England Under-19 squad for a friendly in Germany on March 30th. Ryan would still qualify at Under-18 level but, with no games currently planned at that level, the Under-19 coach Dick Bate is obviously looking to see if "Jarv" can be of help at the UEFA Under-19 qualifying tournament in Slovenia in May. |
| Both Sky Sports 1 and the German sports channel DSF will be showing the Germany - England clash live (kick-off 5.30 pm UK time on 30th March). | |
|
09.03.04 - JAKE OSBORNE RESERVE TEAM DEBUT Norwich City Reserves went to Colchester this afternoon and put in a good performance in a 2-1 win. While first team strikers Leon McKenzie and Ryan Jarvis will take the headlines with a goal a piece, the Academy will have been pleased to see Jake Osborne make an accomplished Reserve team debut in defence. For the match report and pictures click here or on the picture. |

Although there is no Academy Under-19 match at Colney this weekend, There will still be plenty of action at the club's training ground. Capital Canaries will be taking on Northern Canaries at Colney on Saturday (1.30pm kick-off) in what looks like becoming an annual fixture. The match between the two supporters groups sees all funds raised on the day going to FONCY. With a programme, badge and mug being produced to commemorate the match, plus plenty of after match festivities, it is hoped to raise a substantial sum for the FONCY coffers. For more information see the respective website links. We wish both groups a great day. |
03.03.04 - LATEST LEAGUE TABLE BEFORE FREE WEEKEND
|
Following on from last saturday's postponement against Southampton, Norwich City's Academy side again are without a game this coming weekend while the other eight teams in their group play each other in the last group games. The latest league table shows The Canaries still very much in mid-table. On 13th March the Academy side return to action when they travel to Birmingham City for the first of four "inter-group" games. Before then several Academy players are likely to feature for the Reserves in their game at Colchester United on March 10th. |
