18.01.05 - SOUTHAMPTON MATCH PREVIEWS

As weeks in the Academy go, they surely don't come much more challenging than this.

Southampton have probably the best Under-18 Academy side in the country at the moment, having won the Academy League last season and recently having lost their first Academy match at this level for eighteen months (see current league table). As the fixture list will have it, David Williams' Norwich side face the Saints twice this week!

Wednesday (7pm) sees the F.A. Youth Cup match at St. Marys' before the Saints travel to Colney for an Academy League match on Saturday (1pm).
The matches will certainly be different in character if only due to the Stadium in Southampton and the three over-age players that are allowed in the league game on Saturday.

Both games will certainly be very difficult for the Canaries as the youngsters most recently learnt in November in a 2-1 defeat on the South coast.

The Under-16's also face Southampton at Colney on Saturday.

17.01.05 - SUCCESSFUL INDOOR DEBUT

An Under-13 squad finished in sixth place in the Hassia-Junioren-Cup indoor tournament in Bingen, Germany on Saturday.

An injury-hit squad took a little while to adapt against some top German sides who are much more experienced in the indoor game. They went on to play some good football and gain some valuable experience abroad.

Sunday saw some of the Norwich team take part in a small three-team friendly round-robin tournament before heading back to England.

We will publish a full report on the trip on this website later this week.

01.01.05 - A BUSY CHRISTMAS

It was a busier Christmas than expected for past and present Academy players with Nigel Worthington's first team squad stretched to the limit by injury.

Ryan Jarvis and Danny Crow made their Premier League debuts at Middlesbrough and were on the bench again today at Portsmouth, Jarvis getting a run-out up front at the end of the game.

Adam Smith and Rossi Jarvis have also been involved as squad members over the Christmas period and may find Academy football somewhat mundane if and when Worthington's injury problems clear!
