With Norwich's Michael Spillane at the heart of the defence the Irish beat Romania 4-0 with all the goals coming in the second half. Their next game is against Israel on Wednesday evening. |

28.03.06 - CITY BEAT LEAGUE LEADERS Norwich Under-18's achieved a notable victory on Saturday, winning 1-0 away at Academy Group leaders Southampton. 23.03.06 - SPILLANE IN DUBLIN

Academy youngster Michael Spillane looks forward to a week in Dublin next week as he joins up with the Irish Under-17 squad for their UEFA Championships Elite qualifying group. Israel, Serbia & Montenegro and Romania are also in Dublin for the round-robin tournament with the winners qualifying for the finals in Luxembourg in May. Michael will be looking to continue his good form in the recent Algarve Cup where he scored a winning goal and by all accounts put in some good displays for the national side. 20.03.06 - QUAYE RETURNS AS FOXES MAUL CANARIES City's Under-18 side suffereed a heavy defeat at leicester on Saturday, going down 4-0. Two bright points in a poor performance were the return of Alvin Quaye after a long injury lay-off and schoolboy Ros Kelly's Man of the Match performance. 12.03.06 - YOUNG CANARIES LOSE TO BRISTOL A young City Under-18 side, including two schoolboys in the starting line-up, went down 2-1 to Bristol City at Colney on Saturday afternoon. 05.03.06 - CHELSEA GIVE CITY FIRST HALF BLUES City's Under-18 side went down 3-0 to Chelsea at Colney on Saturday with all the goals coming in the first-half. City included two trialists in their starting line-up and failed to recover from the early goals to slip to defeat after three wins in succession in recent weeks. 04.03.06 - THEDINGHAUSEN TOURNAMENT 2006 Mid-January saw a Norwich Under-11 squad travelling to Germany to take part in a high-quality indoor tournament in Thedinghausen, near Bremen. Unfortunately our European reporter couldn't attend, but thanks to the tournament organisers we are now able to publish a small report and some photos from what was a great weekend for the youngsters. 04.03.06 - INTERNATIONAL UPDATE Further to Michael Spillane's exploits with Ireland Under-17 in Portugal, it has emerged that Michael was also goalscorer for the Irish in their 1-0 win against the hosts in the Algarve tournament. The Academy youngster certainly enjoyed a successful trip with the national side and can now look forward to the UEFA Championship qualifying tournament in Dublin at the end of the month. Joe Lewis, meanwhile, was a late call-up to the England Under-19 squad last week after Sunderland's Ben Alnwick had to pull out with a leg injury sustained in a reserve game. Joe went on to have a good 45 minute run out at Northampton in a 3-0 win against Slovakia Under-19's and drew praise from England coach Martin Hunter. Meanwhile Andrew Cave-Brown was involved in at least Scotland's first two games in the La Manga Under-19 tournament in Spain. Cave-Brown came off towards the end of the 0-0 draw against Finalnd which followed a 1-1 draw with the Republic of Ireland. Scotland won their last game 2-1 against Norway as Ireland went on to win the tournament. The Scots are involved in a UEFA Under-19 Championship qualifying group in Belarus in mid-May. |

Michael Spillane and to-be Academy Scholar Mark O'Toole helped the Republic of Ireland Under-17's claim second place in the Algarve Tournament. Two 1-0 wins against Portugal and Holland followed a first day defeat by the same score against winners France. According to the FAI website Spillane was involved in the build-up to the winner against the Dutch in this morning's final game, crashing a shot against the bar, and he also went close with a header. |
