Kris Renton Player Profile
25.05.06 - KRIS RENTON PLAYER PROFILE

Today we start our review of next season's new scholars by taking a look at Kris Renton.

The striker, who comes to Norwich from Scotland, is clearly looking forward to his scholarship.

The profile includes the traditional Q+A section and some comments from Academy Manager Ricky Martin. Look out for further profiles during the summer.

21.05.06 - CAVE-BROWN QUALIFIES

Scotland Under-19's have reached the finals of this year's UEFA Under-19 Championship with an impressive group win in Belarus this week.

Norwich Academy defender Andrew Cave-Brown helped his national side to two 2-1 victories against hosts Belarus and then Bulgaria. The Scots then secured the point they needed in the final game against France on Saturday in a hard-fought 1-1 draw to qualify for the finals in Poland in July.

Michael Spillane was not as lucky with the Irish Under-19 side in their tournament in Slovakia. Ireland lost their first game 3-2 to the hosts with Michael on the bench. The second game this morning against Turkey saw Spillane play in centre-midfield but the Norwich youngster was powerless to prevent a 3-1 defeat which finished all Irish hope of qualifying. Their last game is again Georgia on Tuesday.

05.05.06 - SPILLANE STEPS UP

Michael Spillane
Michael Spillane
Academy youngster Michael Spillane has been called into the Republic of Ireland Under-19 Squad for the UEFA Qualifying Group matches in Slovakia from 19th to 23rd May. Only a few weeks ago the first-year scholar was on duty with the Under-17's. His newly gained Championship experience has clearly shown this step up should not be a problem for Michael and we wish him a successful tournament.

Scotland's Under-19 Squad for their qualifiers in Belarus around the same weekend has not yet been published but baring injury Andrew Cave-Brown is likely to be involved after playing for the Scots in the recent La Manga Under-19 tournament in Spain.

Joe Lewis, meanwhile, has missed out on the equivalent England Under-19 squad with Sunderland's Ben Alnwick reclaiming his place after recovering from injury. Lewis put in a useful performance in a friendly last month and will be disappointed not to be involved.

01.05.06 - UNDER-14's SCOOP DES HOLL AWARD

As the season draws to a close it was time for the annual Des Holl memorial award to take place at Colney.

This award is made to the team who Ricky Martin and his staff believe have produced the most memorable performances and results during the current campaign.

Having said that the award is as much about a supporter who was a Canary fan all his life and who paid special interest in the players coming through the Academy.

Greg Crane
Des passed away a few years back and FONCY decided to remember his name by making this annual award which this year went to the Under-14's coached by Gary Butcher.

There was however one disappointed coach at Colney in the shape of former FONCY Academy player of the season Greg Crane, who felt that the award should have been made to one of the younger age groups that he helps to coach.

Therefore to help sooth the pain of defeat the FONCY chairman was on hand to award Greg a FONCY badge as the captain of Lowestoft Town who the previous day had lifted the Ridgeons League title.
