15.01.07 - TOUGH GOING IN GERMANY

An Academy Under-11 squad found the going tough in Thedinghausen in Germany at the weekend when they took part in the "Jugendfoerderkreis-Cup" indoor tournament.

The competition was full of top quality sides from the German Bundesliga, whose players have been playing indoor football for two to three months each year and City ended up finishing in 14th place. Nevertheless, the experience gained travelling abroad and mixing with these sides will be invaluable as the youngsters develop.

The tournament was excellently run and we look forward to presenting a full report in the next few days.

City's Under'18s last travelled to Newcastle at the beginning of the season, going down 3-1 in an Academy match, and with Newcastle currently third in their Academy Group a tough encounter can be expected. However there are also good omens for the match. In 2001/02 season City faced The Magpies at Carrow Road in the Youth Cup 3rd Round and went through 2-1 (Hayes, Woodrow). We wish the Norwich youngsters all the best for their big match.

Before next week's encounter City recommence their Academy season after the Christmas break on Saturday with the short trip to Ipswich (11.00 am kick-off).
