| 26.03.07 - NO LUCK FOR THE IRISH |
|
The Republic of Ireland Under-17's failed to qualify for the UEFA Championship Finals as they went down 3-0 to hosts Germany in Nordhorn this evening. With Norwich's Gareth Matthews and Kurtis Byrne again in the starting line-up, the Irish competed well with a strong German side and went into half-time 0-0, having looked dangerous on the break. After eight minutes of the second-half the Germans finally broke the deadlock from the penalty spot following a Matthews tackle on Dennis Dowidat. Two late goals sealed the win as Ireland pushed forward and the Irish certainly didn't deserve to lose by such a clear margin in the end. Kris Renton's Scotland drew 0-0 with Greece in the other group match this evening. |

| 24.03.07 - IRELAND UNDER-17's WITH ALL TO PLAY FOR | |
![]() Kurtis Byrne |
The Republic of Ireland Under-17's beat Greece 1-0 in Germany yesterday to set up a showdown with Germany on Monday for the Finals place which a group win brings with it. According to reports Greece frustrated the Republic over long periods as the Irish controlled the game without making use of their advantage. Norwich's Kurtis Byrne was again a threat on the right wing and it was his cross that led to the only goal of the game from Hamilton's James McCarthy just after half-time. Kris Renton's Scotland lost 4-1 to Germany in yesterday's other match and now only have the wooden spoon to play for in their final game on Monday against Greece. |
| Republic of Ireland need a win against Germany in Nordhorn on Monday to secure the group win. It will be a very difficult task against the hosts who have scored eight goals in two games and will be cheered on by a 7000 plus capacity crowd. | |
