30.07.07 - RENTON STRIKE SECURES DRAW

The Academy Under-18 side drew 1-1 with Tottenham Hotspur at Colney on Saturday, with Kris Renton hitting a second-half equaliser.

The Under-18's next game is on Wednesday afternoon behind closed doors at Cambridge United. The game at Dereham Town has been put back a day to Saturday August 4th (3pm). Both matches may see some of the younger professionals joining the Academy squad.

29.07.07 - CAPITALS SUPPORT UNDER-16s PREPARATION FOR AUSTRIA

This week the Under-16 Academy Squad make their way to Vienna to take part in the MegaCard Summer Cup run by the Academy of top club Austria Vienna.

Thanks to funding from the Capital Canaries the squad was able to spend the weekend 7/8th July on the North Norfolk coast as the new U15/16 squad reported back for a preseason training weekend.

We spoke to Dean Rastrick who updated FONCY on the weekend. "The aim was to bring the players together in a different environment and to start their pre-season preparations for the Megacard SummerCup which runs from 31/7-4/8/2007".

"The Aylmerton Centre provided the ideal environment for multi-disciplined activities with the group of nineteen players completing three varied sessions/activities on each day. Saturday morning saw an Interval Physical/Football Conditioning Circuit, while on Saturday afternoon it was down to the beach at East Runton for Football Specific Conditioning and three 10 minute conditioned football games. Neil Adams, Ian Thornton and Colin Whiteman were the staff involved in the trip."

"The weekend provided the perfect springboard for their preparation leading up to the tournament. We were delighted with the players' attitude and approach to what was a physically and mentally tough weekend. Thanks to the support of Capital Canaries we were able to start our preseason in a professional and innovate way."

22.07.07 - CITY WIN AT NEEDHAM MARKET

The Academy Under-18 squad won 1-0 at Needham Market on Friday evening thanks to a first-half goal from Kris Renton.

The Under-18's next game is next Saturday at Colney against Tottenham Hotspur (12.00pm).

19.07.07 - A SAD START TO THE SEASON

Pete Street Everyone at Norwich City Academy was saddened to hear the news that their regular Dolphin Travel driver Pete Street has passed away suddenly. A keen Liverpool fan, he was known to everyone as “Scouse” for obvious reasons. Academy Manager Ricky Martin, who along with FONCY chairman John Landamore attended the funeral on Wednesday, insisted that Scouse was part and parcel of the team - and this not just for the Under-18 Saturday games, but also on Sundays when he was at the helm for the schoolboy travelling teams.

David Williams said that Scouse was great company when the team were on the road and everyone enjoyed the banter - on the rear occasions when Scouse took a wrong turn David was quick to give him some pointers on his driving.

As a mark of respect there will be a minutes silence at Colney on Saturday 28th July when The Academy Under-18’s entertain Spurs. At this sad time the thoughts of everyone at The Academy are with Scouse’s family.

17.07.07 - CITY START WITH WIN OVER NORWICH

The Academy Under-18 squad kicked-off their pre-season fixtures with a 3-2 win at Norwich United on Saturday. Trialist Victor Mensah was a first-half scorer for Ricky Martin's team with Damon Lathrope and Luke Daley also on target.

The Under-18's next game is on Friday evening at Needham Market (7.30pm).

04.07.07 - ACADEMY START / PRE-SEASON SCHEDULE

The new Academy Under-18 squad checked into Colney on Sunday ahead of pre-season training start this week.

Peter Grant joined Academy Manager Ricky Martin and Academy staff in welcoming the scholars and signing contracts with the new first year arrivals.
