Chris Martin

Despite the fact that Chris only joined The Academy as a scholar at the start of the current season, you could argue that in fact he is into his second season playing full-time for the Under-18's.

This has come about because Chris played for almost the entire season last year, in fact he finished the season as leading scorer for David Williams' side.

The experience of playing last season has certainly prepared him well for his first season as a full time scholar and Chris has settled in very well to the day-to-day life at Colney.

You might have expected Chris to have appeared on the scoresheet more times than he has this season, but that has come as no surprise to David Williams.

"It has always been a difficult transformation for first year scholars when they leave school and join clubs as trainees," said David. "Last season Chris was still at school and he was training a couple of times a week and then playing on Saturdays. This season is completely different for him as it is for all the first years. Training every day as well as doing their course work is not easy and while it might seem that Chris is not banging the goals in as he was last season, his effort and commitment has not diminished, proof of that has come via the manager who had no hesitation in including him in the squad that travelled to Loftus Road last month. Chris clearly enjoyed the experience and it is now up to him to continue to perform for the Under-18's and Keith Webb's Reserve Team".

Chris is one of three new strikers to join The Academy this season, along with Seb Muddel and Bally Smart. With Asmat El Ouargui thrown in for good measure Chris has played with a variety of strike partners this season, and that does not include his Reserve Team appearances along side the likes of Ian Henderson and Ryan Jarvis.
