Matthew Halliday

Like all of the third year scholars, the coming season 2005/06 will be very important to Matthew, as it will determine if he is to be offered a professional contract with the club, and from Matthew's point of view the pre-season warm up campaign could not have gone much better.

It all started at Dereham when he was in the starting line-up for the opening pre-season game, and it got even better when he scored the opening goal after coming forward for a corner.

He was then one of four Academy players who joined the first team on their two match tour of Holland and while he didn't get as much football as he would have liked, the experience will certainly have been rewarding.

Matthew is the current FONCY player of the season and that came after he finished last season with a staggering 49 games for both Academy and Reserves under his belt.

David Williams is pleased that Matthew has been given this early opportunity to show what he can do and insists he has to grab the opportunity with both hands.

"Matthew was consistent all last season and he worked hard to find his feet in the Reserves." said David. "If anything I would like to see him score more goals when he comes up for corners. The early indications for Matthew this season are very positive, and I hope that he can now push on from this encouraging start to the new season."
