The name of Ryan Jarvis first came to prominence in July 2001. Ryan's extra time "Golden Goal" against Hearts saw City's Under-15 side lift The Northern Ireland Milk Cup, an event which has seen Friends of Norwich City Youth sponsoring the Academy's participation for the past several years. Since then Ryan has gone from strength to strength. An England call up followed shortly after, with the young Fakenham striker impressing on his debut. He has now become a regular in the England set up, participating in the 2003 Under-17 European Championships in Portugal. He and fellow youth team strike partner Danny Crow developed a good understanding, which is not surprising as they have been playing for the Academy since they were both 12. Proof of that understanding was clearly apparent in City's 2002/03 F.A.Youth Cup victory over Wimbledon at Selhurst Park in December 2002 when a defence splitting pass from Ryan sent Danny clear to score the Canaries second goal. At the end of the 2002/03 season Ryan regularly trained with the 1st team squad and on April 19th he became the youngest ever first team player at Norwich when he came on as a substitue against Walsall. FONCY celebrated the event with a limited edition coffee mug (now sold out)! Since then Ryan has been a regular member of the first team squad and signed a professional contract with the Canaries soon after hs 17th birthday. Officially Ryan remains an Academy Scholar despite his first team duties and FONCY continue to take a keen interest in his progress. |
